Job Summary

The PhD in Sustainability Education program isseeking one full-time Core Faculty member to join our team. The limited-residency delivery model blends a core curriculum that combinesonline, in-person, and community-based learning. The Ph.D. program in Sustainability Education provides an opportunity for advanced,interdisciplinary, applied, and student-centered learning that addresses important global and local issues. It is based on the traditions,values, and educational and ecological as well as social justice philosophies that have differentiated Prescott College from othereducational institutions since the 1960s. This Ph.D. Program emphasizes rigorous scholarship, critical thinking, and experiential,action-oriented, and community-based research. Based on a cohort-model of learning and scholarship, the program fosters open discourse anddesign of an ecologically sustainable and socially just and diverse world in the 21st century. Through

respect for diverseperspectives and scholarly collaboration, integrated, applied and interdisciplinary thinking, the Ph.D. program promotes the evolution ofecological understanding, psychological/philosophical consciousness, and equitable learning for a humane and sustainable future. Facultygovern the curricula, teach courses, advise students, support student learning, engage in scholarship and professional development withinthe field. This is primarily a remote position, with a requirement that faculty travel and participate in PhD symposium (residency), up totwice a year.

Required Education and Experience

  • Earned PhD degree in a field that aligns with Socialand Environmental Justice Values as Enacted in Teaching and Learning.
  • An intersectional, feminist, and decolonial orientation toSustainability, and a commitment to advancing systemically marginalized voices in the field.
  • Demonstration of a strong professionaland scholarly identity through membership and/or leadership in organizations whose primary mission is to advocate for and to providedevelopment, support, and/or recognition for social and environmental justice.
  • Knowledge and experience in culturally responsiveteaching and social justice initiatives that serve systemically minoritized excluded communities, with an interest and capacity to furtherdevelop curriculum in this area.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with culturally responsive, sustaining, and anti-racistcurriculum development and teaching.
  • A minimum of 1-year teaching experience at the graduate college level is required, withpreference toward those with experience in online or hybrid learning environments.
  • Experience serving as a dissertation advisorusing a student-centered, assets-based approach.
  • Experience advising and mentoring graduate students beyond the dissertation, whichincludes program completion advising, scholarly mentorship, and general support for student wholeness and retention.
  • Experiencewith student and program evaluation and student assessment.
  • An active research agenda demonstrated through ongoing scholarlydissemination such as (but not limited to) peer reviewed publications, book contributions, podcast appearances, grant participation, andregular conference presentations. This is particularly critical for modeling to the doctoral students what they areproducing.
  • Knowledge and skills in a range of research methodologies and methods.
  • Proficient technology skillsrelated to online learning management platforms, video conferencing, student assessment, community building, etc.
  • Stronginterpersonal communication skills, a sense of humor, a collaborative approach, and the ability and desire to serve as a mentor and advisorto PhD scholars.

Note: Preference will be given to candidates who received PhDs from other institutions (not PrescottCollege) to meet Higher Learning Commission standards.
