Illinois Stability Investment for Family Housing (SIFH) Community Engagement Coordinator Remote, USA

Reports to: Program  Manager

Level: Associate

Location:  Remote, USA. Candidates must align their working hours with Central Standard Time. We are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of employment Visas in the U.S. or U.K. at this time.

Compensation: $25.00 hourly. This is a part-time, project-based position, which means it is contingent upon funding. The number of hours will vary from week to week, and will average approximately 8-16 hours per week, and a minimum guarantee of 4 hours per week.

Timeframe ofProject: March 18 - May 31, 2024

 

About the Role:

Since 2017, GiveDirectly has provided cash relief to low-income Americans affected by disasters. Between 2020 and 2021, we distributed $200M to 200,000 households in response to the COVID-19 crisis - 100% remotely. In 2021, GiveDirectly launched a permanent U.S. team to implement cash programs in disaster response and guaranteed income. As part of this effort, we launched the largest guaranteed income program focused on Black women in the U.S., and administer two of the largest government-funded GI programs in the country in Chicago, IL and Cook County, IL.

GiveDirectly is the program administrator for Year 2 of the Illinois Stability Investment for Family Housing pilot (SIFH). The SIFH  Pilot will send one-time, large sum cash transfers to around 200 families experiencing homelessness across 8 geographies in Illinois, including the City of Chicago.

Community Engagement Coordinator (CECs) will support GiveDirectly’s work with the SIFH Pilot. As a member of the team, you will provide in-person application submission assistance, customer support to applicants and partner organization staff, directly support applicants in enrollment, use tools to help applicants make an informed decision about participating in the program, and support program staff in engaging applicants and partner organizations throughout the application and enrollment process. 

What you'll do:

  • Provide high quality customer and technical support to partner organization staff and applicants
  • Conduct phone and/or email outreach to applicants and partner organization staff
  • Use a benefits counseling tool to help recipients understand any potential effect of participation on their benefits
  • Clearly communicate complex information with empathy
  • Maintain confidentiality
  • Conduct other programmatic/logistical tasks, where required
  • Collaborate with the team on ways to improve processes for applicants

  • Proficiency in Excel
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to show respect and openness toward someone whose social and cultural background is different from one’s own – CECs will be the face of our program for applicants and will need to approach all communications and interactions with an eye toward delivering the best possible experience for recipients.
  • Great communication skills – CECs will explain the SIFH pilot and process to recipients and collect and discuss sensitive information about income and government benefits with applicants experiencing homelessness. Discretion and good judgment are paramount.
  • Technological literacy – CECs will need fluency and comfort using computers and tablets and navigating technology platforms used for customer service and application completion and verification.
  • Fast learner – CECs must learn the complexities of our operations, and communicate those to applicants.
  • Ability to work both independently and as a team member with personal enthusiasm, optimism, humility, and a sense of humor.
  • Candidates who have personal or professional experience in the low-income and/or historically marginalized communities that we serve are encouraged to apply.
  • Experience with customer service or in a client-facing role is a plus.
  • Proficiency in Excel
  • Ability to travel locally

About the hiring process

Format: The hiring process follows the same general outline for all open roles:

First interview (30 mins)Take home skills assignment (~2 hours)Second interview (1 hour)*Third interview (1 hour)*Final interview (1 hour)Reference checks (30 mins each)

*For some roles, second & third interviews are combined into a panel interview. If there are adjustments or variations on this process, those changes will be communicated during the first interview.

Venue: We conduct interviews over Google Meet with camera on (unless communicated otherwise).
