Duties and Responsibilities
I. Contribute to OHCHR work on migration- Keep abreast of the main developments related to migration at the EU level, including the Pact on Migration and Asylum and initiatives proposed by EU MS, as relevant- Contribute to ROE’s work as a member of the Frontex Consultative Forum on Fundamental Rights, as relevant- Explore possibilities to address gender violence against migrants at EU borders,- Contribute to input, briefing notes, talking points, and speeches upon request,- Support the organization of events and meetings,- Participate in relevant meetings, including meetings with OHCHR Migration Unit.II. Contribute to thematic priorities of ROE, including the rule of law and civic space- Timely submission of briefing notes, speeches, talking points, analysis,- Support in organizing meetings and consultations.III. Contribute to internal and external reporting and communication- Contribute to OHCHR Weekly Update,- Identify, propose and draft social media posts and web stories related to areas under responsibility.IV. Gather a better understanding of the UN HUMAN RIGHTS system- Building up knowledge about different UN treaty system, Special Procedures and UPR.
Qualifications/special skills
To qualify for the United Nations Secretariat internship programme applicants must, at the time of their submission, be enrolled in a graduate school programme (i.e. Master's degree or equivalent degree, or higher) or in the final academic year of a first-level university degree programme (i.e. Bachelor's degree or equivalent degree), preferably in the area of law, political science, international relations, social sciences or a related field, OR have graduated with a university degree as defined above AND, if selected, must commence the internship within a one-year period from the date of graduation. Fellows with relevant educational backgrounds are also encouraged to apply.No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this internship, fluency in English is required, knowledge of French is an asset.
