ABOUT WFP

The United Nations World Food Programme is the winner of the 2020 Nobel Peace Prize.  We are the world’s largest humanitarian organization, saving lives in emergencies and using food assistance to build a pathway to peace, stability and prosperity for people recovering from conflict, disasters and the impact of climate change. In Lao PDR, WFP supports the government in providing school lunches for primary students, counters malnutrition with targeted food support to the most vulnerable, and helps communities build resilient lives with sustainable livelihood options.

JOB PURPOSE

To provide effective specialized support and technical analyses to policy and programme activities that effectively meet food assistance needs.

ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT

Reports to a Programme Policy Officer based in the Country Office.  

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

1.    Provide technical support and assist in the development and implementation of various activities and processes within the nutrition portfolio, supporting alignment with wider programme policies and guidelines. 
2.    Provide specialized project management support to nutrition activities to ensure that the various activities are performed within the established targets following WFP’s policies and procedures. 
3.    Within the nutrition portfolio, contribute to a range of reports and data analysis and highlight trends/issues ensuring deliverables adhere to corporate standards and quality control. 
4.    Ensure and/or perform accurate, timely recording of data within the nutrition activities (e.g., distribution reports, programmatic data collected digitally, monitoring, etc.) and consistency of information presented to stakeholders. 
5.    Liaise with internal counterparts to support effective collaboration, implementation and monitoring of ongoing project activities. 
6.    Support the capacity building of WFP staff, cooperating partners, and national/subnational government within the nutrition portfolio. 
7.    Act as a point of contact for resolution of a range of operational queries and problems within the nutrition portfolio. 
8.    Regularly review and registry of the data from the field offices according to WFP policies and procedures as well as work with the corporate systems .
9.    Provide input to the nutrition capacity strengthening activities, including social behaviour change communication (SBCC) interventions, fortification, etc.
10.     Prepare field mission reports and draft other reports of nutrition portfolio.
11.    Perform translation from/to English, Lao  on short documents, presentations, and written correspondence, as well as oral translation upon the needs.
12.    Provide other support on the nutrition activities as well as back up support during the absence of other colleagues. 
13.    Contribute to improvement of business procedures and processes;
14.    Cross-cutting: Support the implementation of the WFP Lao PDR Country Strategic Plan through ensuring cross-cutting efforts such as nutrition-sensitivity, gender and diversity inclusion, protection and accountability, environmental protections, and capacity development, are integrated throughout the portfolio and within the office, and to ensure equal participation and consideration of women and men, boys and girls, and people living with specific needs and/or disabilities;
15.    Perform any other duties as required. 

STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Completion of secondary school education, a post-secondary certificate in Agriculture, Health, Environmental Science, Social Sciences or others related field
Language:  Required fluency in oral and written communication in English and Lao .

DESIRED EXPERIENCES FOR ENTRY INTO THE ROLE

  • At least six years of progressively responsible work experience in implementation of programmes including monitoring and reporting in Health, Agriculture, SBC, Education or other relevant technical areas within the development sector.
  • Good analytical, facilitation, negotiation skills.
  • Ability to work in a team, establish effective working relations with persons of different cultural backgrounds.
  • Full knowledge of computer applications such as MS Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook, etc.).
  •  Experience in handling of various data packages and web-based management systems.
