GiveDirectly (GD) provides cash grants directly to people living in extreme poverty. Since launching in 2011, GD has raised over $1B, delivered cash to more than 1.5 million recipients, launched operations in 15 countries, and continues to expand its reach across the Global South. Intern pay will be hourly, and rate of pay will depend on level of education and experience.  The salary for this internship is as follows for U.S.-based interns. 

If not U.S.-based, there will be an adjustment to the hourly amount based on cost of living and local market rates of the country in which candidates are based:

  • Undergraduate student: $19.00/hour
  • Recent graduate: $22.00/hour
  • Master’s degree student: $29.00/hour

 

About this role

Location: Remote, but interns must be based in the US, Kenya, Liberia, Rwanda, Morocco, DRC, Uganda, Malawi, or Mozambique

Deadline: We will accept applications until February 28th, 2024

Reports to: Director, Safeguarding and Recipient Advocacy 

Number of positions to be filled: 1

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct desk research on advocacy events relevant to GD's work 
  •  Coordinate administrative logistics related to case reporting and management (suggestion boxes, posters etc)
  • Supporting development of safeguarding improvement tolls and dissemination of the same 
  • Conduct desk research on best practices in the sector for safe cash programming

Education Requirement:

  • Master’s degree student in Communications, International Relations, Diplomacy or other relevant major.

Skills Requirement:

  • Ability to coordinate tasks across teams and countries 
  • Some experience working with rural communities 
  • Previous experience in humanitarian, child protection, safeguarding is an added advantage 
  • Experience with writing reports and general knowledge management 
  • Ability to conduct issue-based research for conceptualization of decisions 
  • Experience coordinating internal and external partners 
  • Above average competence in using Microsoft suite

About the hiring process

Format: The hiring process follows the same general outline for all open roles:

First interview (30 mins)Take home skills assignment (~2 hours)Second interview (1 hour)*Third interview (1 hour)*Final interview (1 hour)Reference checks (30 mins each)

*For some roles, second & third interviews are combined into a panel interview. If there are adjustments or variations on this process, those changes will be communicated during the first interview.

Venue: We conduct interviews over Google Meet with camera on (unless communicated otherwise).

Accessibility: Closed captioning is available during all Google Meet interviews, and interviewers will also post interview questions in the chat box throughout the call. If you need assistance accessing either of these features, please let your interviewer know at the start of your interview!
