B. Background

The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH has been operating in India for over 60 years. It has offices in Delhi, Bengaluru and Mumbai, in addition to other locations in the country. There are currently around 550 employees working at GIZ India, 80% of them are national staff. Implementing around 100 projects, GIZ India works on behalf of the German Government, the European Union (EU), other public and private clients in the areas of environment, urbanization, energy as well as private sector development. The Country Office (CO), located in New Delhi, is responsible for overall coordination and strategic orientation of GIZ in India. The portfolio management team advises and supports the Country Director on strategic portfolio development, monitors efficient implementation and acts as a link between commissioning parties in Germany on the one hand and Indian implementing partners on the other.

C. Requirement

We are interested in applicants who wish to gain valuable insights into a constantly evolving and growing sector of Indo-German development cooperation. This position is office-based (GIZ Country Office in Delhi). You will be supervised by and report to a member of the portfolio management team.

D. Core scope of tasks

1. Support of Technical Cooperation (TC) portfolio monitoring:

  • Provide support to the portfolio management team in authenticating and updating information in the ‚TC portfolio monitoring‘.
  • Liaise with project contact points to track and update relevant information.
  • Based on the above, make suggestions on efficiency and innovation in management of ‚TC portfolio monitoring‘.

2. Monitoring and analysis of the political landscape in India:

  • Regular analysis of selected media outlets on topics of interest for German Development Cooperation.
  • Analysis of specific occasions, including the national budget, party election manifestos and state policy of the new Government of relevance to GIZ India.
  • Monitoring of administrative changes in implementing partner ministries.

3. Support in event Management and coordination of meetings:

  • In coordination with the portfolio management team, support planning and implementation of events/meetings, with a particular view on the investors conference on renewable energy, the 7th Cabinet Consultations, and Annual Consultations/Negotiations on Development Cooperation.
  • Support senior staff in the coordination of internal and external meetings/workshops, including invitation management, logistics and documentation.
  • Coordination and monitoring of schedules, ensuring that agreed blocks of time are kept clear for planned events relating to the GIZ office.

4. Any other tasks assigned as per the needs of the portfolio management team.

E. Eligibility

  • Applicants who fulfil the following requirements are invited to apply:
  • Bachelor’s/master’s degree in social sciences (e.g. Political Sciences, Economics, etc.) or related subjects.
  • The applicant should have completed his/her qualifying degree (Bachelor’s or Master’s) not more than 6 months ago at the time of submission of the application.
  • At least 1-2 years’ professional experience in a comparable position.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills in English, ideally some knowledge of German.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Knowledge about Adobe design software and commonly used IT tools is an asset.
