As a Safety, Health & Environment (SH&E) Specialist the mission of your role is to drive, coordinate and prioritize site SH&E process and projects, to guide and advise the internal stakeholders in the delivery of all Safety, Occupational Health, and Environment results. To ensure the site is always in compliance with applicable legal and regulatory requirements, Ecolab and Nalco policies and standards.

Core Accountabilities

  • To ensure robust, clear and well understood SH&E processes and procedures are in place to meet regulatory, Ecolab and Nalco, and other best practice SH&E standards are in place as are appropriate to the plant
  • To ensure through competent risk assessment processes that prioritized plans are developed and actions taken to improve site SH&E performance
  • To maintain SH&E in the forefront of daily activities, and lead by example at every given opportunity

Key Responsibilities

  • To be the key point of contact for all the SH&E issues, acting as the ‘competent person’ to advise site management on matters concerning SH&E, and be a visible role model for safe behaviors and practices
  • Ensure compliance with all current legislation applicable on SH&E matters, ensuring the safety of all jobs and associates
  • Coordinate the SH&E Training Plan, propose new training actions and implement the plan according to the needs of each Department. Delivering training programs, by providing coaching, guidance and advice to other functions concerning SH&E and ensuring competency and compliance with regulations.
  • Development of tracking and compliance SH&E indicators such as KPI, investigation of accidents or incidents, results of regulatory inspections and compliance audits.
  • Representing the plant in SH&E compliance audits conducted by third parties; communicating trends in audit findings, corrective actions and observed best practice.
  • Identify direct, indirect and potential environmental aspects, carry out their evaluation and assess the significance of these environmental aspects
  • Coordinate all the activities related with contractors, suppliers, authorized personnel and inspections, in compliance with all the necessary Ecolab documentations and legislation applicable
  • Developing and implementing systems and processes to reduce hazardous waste generation and increase recycling.
  • Ensuring that ‘onsite’ emergency plans are current, communicated and aligned with the local authority ‘offsite’ plan.
  • Lead Programs to actively reduce environmental impact of site operations including waste, effluent, emissions, carbon and energy consumption

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree level in Safety, Environmental or Chemical Engineering or in another related field.
  • +3 years of practical experience and/ or well-developed understanding of SH&E practices, standards and Spanish legislation and regulatory requirements (as SEVESO) with increasing responsibility in a chemical production/manufacturing environment
  • Fluent level of English and Spanish

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Safety, Health & Environment
  • Strong team orientation, self-starter and highly motivated individual
  • Practical, flexible and involved approach to providing SH&E support and services at all staff levels and locations
