Mission and objectives

UNICEF, also known as the United Nations Children's Fund, is a United Nations agency responsible for providing humanitarian and developmental aid to children worldwide. The agency is among the most widespread and recognizable social welfare organizations in the world, with a presence in 192 countries and territories. UNICEF's activities include providing immunizations and disease prevention, administering treatment for children and mothers with HIV, enhancing childhood and maternal nutrition, improving sanitation, promoting education, and providing emergency relief in response to disasters.

Task description

The UNV will be a valued, core, and equal member of the UNICEF regional Social Policy team, supporting our work on Social Policy and social protection and interacting with offices across the region. The position is responsible for the following activities:1. Supporting and leading consolidation and presentation of key regional data on Social Policy and analysis2. Supporting research and analysis activities3. Supporting visualisation of Social Policy data and information to support knowledge management on key issues, using a range of tools and approaches4. Supporting data and knowledge management for the section, including updating the external website and ensuring shared site is kept up-to-date and relevant5. Supporting organization of the Social Policy Regional Network Meeting and supporting regional webinars6. Engaging and communicating with COs as required and potentially supporting via an in-country visitFurthermore, UN Volunteers are required to:· Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for instance in events that mark International Volunteer Day);· Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country;· Reflect on the type and quality of voluntary action that they are undertaking, including participation in ongoing reflection activities;· Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.;· Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly-arrived UN Volunteers;· Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering, or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible.Results/Expected Outputs1. Outputs related to consolidated and presented regional data on Social Policy and their analysis2. Contributions completed on research and analysis activities3. Completion of knowledge management and visualisation products of Social Policy data and information such as infographics, briefs, drafting articles etc4. Up-to-date external website and shared team site5. Successful Social Policy Regional Network Meetings and regional webinars6. Completed engagement with COs and potentially supporting via one in-country visit during the year
