Context
The UNDP “STEPping up Nature Reserves Capacity – STEP4Nature” project aims at conserving Lebanon’s natural capital and strengthening the Ministry of Environment’s capacities to plan and sustainably manage protected areas and Nature Reserves. The project will specifically contribute to the enhancement and improvement of Nature Reserves in Lebanon from institutional, socio-economic and technical perspectives. The project is funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Italian Republic through the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS) and implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in coordination with the Ministry of Environment of Lebanon. The assessment of sustainable solid waste management within theNature Reserves in Lebanon has revealed that most reserves require appropriately sized waste bins. To address this need, the project recommends the installation of durable, low-maintenance bins designed to integrate seamlessly with the natural surroundings of Lebanon's Nature Reserves. The objective of this initiative is to introduce sustainable solid waste management structures that not only improve the visitor experience but also mitigate the impact of waste on the Nature Reserves' wildlife.
