Context

This assignment is connected to the work of the Italy-UNDP Energy Partnership. The Italy-UNDP Energy Partnership was designed to tackle the clean energy finance gap in developing countries and contribute to the ambitious target of promoting access to sustainable, affordable, and reliable energy for an additional 500 million people for electricity and another 1 billion people for clean cooking by 2025, with a focus on developing nations and the world’s poorest communities. The Italy-UNDP Energy Partnership focuses on the UN Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 7 “Affordable and clean energy” as a key enabler for development, allowing to fight climate change and reach the goals of the Paris Agreement, while accelerating progress across multiple SDGs. Its goal is to identify country-level investment opportunities that can help reduce the current energy access gap and boost the energy transition in an initial group of 8 African countries, namely Algeria, Nigeria, Kenya, Rwanda, Mozambique, Zambia, Eswatini and Comoros. Recognizing that change will be disruptive, UNDP will work to ensure that such transitions are just, and that their impact on vulnerable people is understood and duly mitigated.Furthermore, recognising the pivotal role and contribution of the private sector in achieving development goals, the UNDP Rome Centre also has a mandate to catalyse new strategic partnerships with the Italian private sector to guarantee the effective delivery of the Italy-UNDP Energy Partnership and its long-term impact.The Project Management Analyst will report to the Policy and Strategy Analyst - Energy and Climate Change of the Italy-UNDP Energy Partnership. S/he will work collaboratively with a number of key staff across Bureaus and Units.

Task description

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of the Policy and Strategy Analyst - Energy and Climate Change or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the UN Volunteer Project Management Analyst will:Support the implementation of the Italy-UNDP Energy Partnership, and particularly its Programme Management. This includes:• Support the Policy and Strategy Analyst - Energy and Climate Change in supervising and coordinating the work of the experts of the Italy-UNDP Energy Partnership. This entails undertaking regular and informal monitoring and evaluation, developing result frameworks, reviewing in-depth the submissions of country-specific investment plans as well as project proposals and other technical documents.• Support the team in engaging with external partners and organizing meetings to present opportunities for collaboration or investment, particularly Italian private sector entities. This includes drafting briefing notes, PowerPoint presentations, memos, and minutes, along with establishing guidelines, criteria and purpose for partnerships and developing a database of relevant counterparts.• Identify and conduct suitable research and analytical work to prepare regular reports and updates.• Contribute, and coordinate as requested, substantive inputs for energy programming outputs.• Keep record of all project materials and reports by effectively managing the Center’s SharePoint system.• Contribute to relevant think pieces, newsletters, and communication material.• Any other related tasks as may be required or assigned by the supervisor.Furthermore, UN Volunteers are encouraged to integrate the UN Volunteers programme mandate within their assignment and promote voluntary action through engagement with communities in the course of their work. As such, UN Volunteers should dedicate a part of their working time to some of the following suggested activities:• Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for instance in events that mark International Volunteer Day).• Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country.• Provide annual and end of assignment self- reports on UN Volunteer actions, results and opportunities.• Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.• Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly-arrived UN Volunteers.• Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering, or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible.Results/expected outputs:• As an active UNDP Rome team member, efficient, timely, responsive, client-friendly and high-quality support rendered to UNDP Rome and its beneficiaries in the accomplishment of her/his functions.• Age, Gender, and Diversity (AGD) perspective is systematically applied, integrated and documented in all activities throughout the assignment.A final statement of achievements towards volunteerism for peace and development during the assignment, such as reporting on the number of volunteers mobilized, activities participated in and capacities developed.
