The Senior Manager, Planning & Purchasing leads the Planning & Purchasing function within budget and output targets to meet customer requirements and standards. This role has full accountability for ensuring safety, customer quality, cost and delivery requirements are met. Responsible for developing an enthusiastic, motivated high performing team by utilizing Roche leadership principles. Leads the team on best practice and establishes standard policies and procedures. Implements and leads continuous improvement and modern manufacturing principles by identifying deficiencies and implementing changes in training, working practices and processes. Partners with the leadership teams within Roche to drive efficiencies through the optimization of manufacturing functions to meet or exceed corporate and local objectives. 

The Senior Manager is capable of making complex, risk based decisions with limited information, demonstrating systems thinking and community concerns. Your Opportunity

People Development and Leadership (50%)

  • Understand and drive local and global strategic initiatives, and actively provide input and feedback relative to local strategy; Builds Roche network(s) to support and drive local and global initiatives.

  • Leads leaders or complex departments to implement overall departmental structure to ensure stability to meet future needs, assigning responsibilities, delegating, recruiting, selecting, training and retaining employees.

  • Leads and coaches with a “servant leadership” mentality; Applies Roche leadership principles (Visionary, Architect, Coaching and Catalyst) as a standard way of leading and achieving production target.

  • Visible leader to organization by working with third party vendors, providing tours, delivering presentations to internal and external stakeholders; Active member of the extended leadership team, including engaged participation in daily tiered meetings.

Production and Planning (35%)

  • Champions and leads the success of critical operational process including but not limited to:

    • Rough Cut Capacity Planning

    • Vendor Managed Inventory

    • Master Production Scheduling

    • Detailed Scheduling

    • Long Range planning 
       

  • Maintains a leadership role in the Global Operations Planning Community, serving on global teams, leading global teams and initiating best practice exchanges between sites.

  • Leads the purchasing and planning team for instruments or Reagents in support of Hub demand. Works closely with Logistics and Warehousing, Manufacturing, suppliers, and the Hub to ensure cost of transport, storage space and supply deliverables are met. 

  • Works with team to coordinate schedules to align the flow of material to meet production needs to achieve goals (e.g. On Time Delivery (OTD), Factory Adherence, Inventory Days on Hand, and Standard Manufacturing Costs).

Continuous Improvement (10%)

  • Optimize the utilization of SAP functionality to increase efficiencies within the team and to support the flow of goods and information driving the highest degree of part traceability and system integrity. 

  • Act as a change agent and drive a culture of continuous improvement by actively demonstrating the use of Agile and Lean Manufacturing tools such as Heijunka, bottleneck analysis, waste identification and elimination, SMED, Kanban, Kaizen and Poka-Yoke in everything the team does.

Quality and Safety, Compliance (5%)

  • Be a role model for Quality, Safety and Compliance. Empowered to make proactive changes to ensure we maintain our Right to Operate and that all processes are performed according to procedure.

  • Reviews, signs-off and ensures staff is trained on documentation (e.g. Operating Procedures, Manufacturing Work Instructions, new product transfer, process validation).

  • Responsible for maintaining greater than 95% in training compliance for self and areas of responsibility. Verifies effectiveness and proficiency of training. 

  • Audit readiness (OSHA, FDA, Area audits, etc.); Represent operations during internal audits/inspections. 

  • Responsible for identification and implementation of root cause, corrective actions, nonconformance reports and Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA’s) in all areas of responsibility. 

Who You Are
  • You have a Bachelor's Degree - preferred Master’s Degree in Logistics/Supply Chain, Science, Engineering/Engineering Technology or Life Science discipline

  • 7 years relevant work experience, preferably in regulated industry

  • 5 years direct people leader experience

  • Six Sigma certification or Green Belt, APICS certification preferred

  • Demonstrated experience with Lean/Continuous Improvement and/or Agile methodologies

  • Experience operating in a GMP/regulated environment, preferred

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Strong organizational, problem-solving skills, written and oral communication skills

  • Proficient in Manufacturing, Resource Planning systems (MRP/ERP), digital tools, process workflows and project management

  • Strong influencing skills; presenting business or operational priorities and decision-points for effective, timely and efficient management/executive decision-making

  • Preferred experience in Google suite of products

Travel Requirements

  • Less than 10%, based on business needs
