The Role
A Software Engineer 2 will build and utilize their subject matter expertise across multiple domains in conjunction with their technical skills, enabling them to design, develop, and maintain high quality, scalable and reusable software in one or more systems. They require minimal oversight while working in collaboration with other engineers on the team, to apply learned techniques and contribute to design and analysis sessions. Uses common industry tools for software development including but not limited to: IDEs; build and continuous integration; source control management; code review tools; data storage services; cloud infrastructure. An engineer in this role demonstrates good software development practices, seeks mentorship from more senior engineers, and mentors interns and new hires to help accelerate their career-growth.
Areas of Responsibility
- Designing and developing discrete areas of functionality that meets the needs of the organization and clients.
- Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to contribute to the design and implementation of software solutions that are scalable, reliable, and maintainable.
- Identify opportunities to improve the processes and technologies of the work team.
- Actively participate in interdisciplinary meetings to analyse and estimate projects.
- Look for new opportunities that allow to provide innovative software solutions to the business.
Job Requirements / Skills
Essential/Required
- Degree or equivalent experience in Computer Systems, Engineering or related careers.
- Years of experience: Minimum 4 years occupying similar roles.
- Fluent in English at an intermediate/advanced level
- Expertise in complex problem solving, analytical and critical thinking skills
- Experience building web applications in MEAN (Mongo, Express, Angular and Nodejs), MERN (Mongo, Express, React and Nodejs), or Java Spring Boot
- Expertise in implementing scalable, distributed and highly available systems on AWS using ECS, EKS, EC2 and Serverless technology (Lambda, ECS, SQS, SNS
- Expertise building web applications in Java Spring Boot
- Experience with JPA/Hibernate
- Experience building event driven architecture
- Experience working and delivering in an Agile Scrum environment
- Broad knowledge and experience in proficient understanding of relational databases (Ie., Oracle / SQL Server / MySQL / NoSQL)
- Ability to multitask and manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment
- Energetic, shows passion and is invested int the success of the project and overall team.
Desirable/Preferred
- Broad knowledge and experience in Messaging Frameworks (RabbitMQ, ActiveMQ, SNS, SQS, Kafka, etc)
- General knowledge of or previous work experience and / or participation in projects related to the media industry
- Experience in cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, Azure)
- Experience using Docker, Kubernetes or rkt
- Experience in DevOps (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Bamboo, Travis for CI/CD)
