As our Public Health Specialist, you will be a member of the Programmes team which is responsible for the planning, development, monitoring, learning and management of all programmes and projects, and reports to the Head of Programmes. You will work closely with Partnership and Advocacy colleagues to define and implement the WASH and Health advocacy agenda. You will also be required to collaborate with the Regional WASH and Health Advisor as well as other WASH and Health specialists from global teams.

Key accountabilities among others include:

  • Support the development of WASH and Health programme concepts to inform the design of such initiatives to deliver WaterAid Mozambique strategic priorities and the WASH and Health Programme Plan 2023-2028.
  • Provide in-depth thought leadership and strategic advice on WASH programming in health settings, framed within a system strengthening approach.
  • Identify and support the delivery of relevant research initiatives for WASH and Health
  • Provide technical support for programme/project development and fundraising.
  • Ensure Planning, Monitoring, Evaluation and Reporting (PMER) core procedures are followed in all relevant and related areas of WASH and Health work including high quality information for periodic reflection, review and learning.
  • Manage, coordinate and enable strategic partnerships and engagements for effective relationships with government institutions as well as international and local collaborating organisations.
  • Contribute to key policy initiatives on WASH in health in close collaboration with the Partnerships and Advocacy team
  • Ensure adequate documentation of WASH and health initiatives and learning from programme/ project interventions
  • Responsible for providing technical input and support to relevant teams to ensure effective integration and monitoring of WASH in health activities working closely with the PMER team.
  • Contribute to strategic planning processes for developing and reviewing programme plans and the country strategy.

To be successful, you will need the following:

  • A relevant Post Graduate degree or equivalent and/or minimum seven (7) years of relevant experience working with relevant Public Health issues.
  • Extensive commitment, experience and demonstrable knowledge and skills in the area of the integration of WASH and health, including WASH and health systems thinking, Public Health, environmental health, sustainable WASH in developing countries
  • In depth understanding of the working modality of the Mozambican health sector.
  • Experience in WASH and/or Public Health programme delivery and the development and coordination of programmes/projects
  • Ability to synthesise information, analyse its relevance and communicate it in accessible formats that target the needs of different audiences.
  • Very strong written and verbal communication skills in Portuguese and English, with good interpersonal, negotiating and persuasive skills and experience.
  • Ability to create networks and develop robust partnerships with relevant sector actors and stakeholders.
  • Proven success in provision of technical assistance, consulting, and/or advisory services to empower and develop capacities.
  • Experience of designing, developing and facilitating in-person and virtual meetings and workshops.
  • IT skills particularly MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Ability to travel domestically up to 20% of time as required.
