This role provides the opportunity to either work remotely within the U.S. or out of our Bombas HQ in New York City.

About the Job:

We are looking for a conscientious, highly motivated, and analytical individual to join our Operations team as the Senior Manager of Outbound Operations, reporting to the VP of Operations. The ideal candidate has 4-6+ years of direct experience in managing outbound parcel shipping carriers (like USPS, UPS, and FedEx), outbound LTL, and reverse logistics shipping for an eCommerce brand. This is a high visibility position with responsibility for a multi-million dollar budget. The role will have one direct report to start. Someone with a background in Data & Analytics will excel in this role.

Bombas products are designed and produced to be best-in-class. The Operations Team is charged with providing an equally outstanding fulfillment and delivery experiences to our customers. You will work with our parcel carriers, 3PL, and numerous internal teams to get the job done.

What you’ll be responsible for:

  • Forecasting outbound shipping expenses for the E-commerce and Donation sales channels—a multi-million dollar budget with complex forecasting inputs. 
    • Presenting forecasted expenses versus actuals to the Finance and Operations teams, and diagnosing the reasons for any variances. 
    • Improving forecasting accuracy QoQ.
  • Optimizing transit time to customers while managing cost. This includes:
    • Curating shipping rules (based on weight, geography, dimensions, etc.) and/or leveraging rate shopping software.
    • Recurring evaluation of our shipping charges versus delivery speeds versus customer expectations.
  • Using on-time delivery data to set cutoff dates before major holidays for ground, 2-day, and overnight, respectively. These dates are marketed to customers on the website.
    • Coordinating with Business Systems and Engineering to adjust on-site messaging and rates for shipping promotions and/or cutoff dates.
    • Assessing performance against cutoff dates and impact on customer retention.
  • Liaising with the import-export team at our 3PL when changes are needed to pickup/dropoff arrangements with parcel carriers.
  • Liaising with account managers from each of our parcel carriers to foster strong partnerships and to ensure Bombas receives acceptable service. Includes leadership of weekly and quarterly meetings.
  • Renegotiating parcel contracts in preparation for the expiration dates including rates, incentives, discounts, and surcharges. 
    • Coordinating audits for inaccurate charges.
  • Collaborating with Marketing, Digital Product, and Finance to test, launch, and evolve eCommerce shipping options for promotional and non-promotional periods.
  • Supporting distribution of donation goods by modeling and advising the most economical shipping modes, depending on the recipient’s needs or facility. 
  • Serving as Bombas’ outbound shipping SME for the Customer Happiness, Marketing, and People teams.
  • Managing Transportation Analyst
    • Collaborating on ad-hoc analyses
    • Supporting the monitoring key outbound metrics such as click-to-home time, cost per order, and distribution of service usage
  • Collaborating with Data & Analytics on shipping data: ingestion, integrity, dashboarding, and reporting.

What you’ll bring:

  • 4-6+ years of direct experience in outbound shipping for eCommerce, including responsibility for both data analytics and making business decisions.
  • Skilled at Excel analyses and building reports in analytics tools like Looker. Bonus points for basic SQL.
  • Experience with parcel carrier contracts, outbound invoicing, and large datasets.
  • Nice-to-have: experience with NetSuite and/or Shopify.

The pay range for this position at the start of employment is expected to be between $106,000 and $125,000/year. However, the base pay offered may vary depending on multiple factors, including job-related knowledge, skills, experience, market factors, and business need.

The Bombas total rewards package offered for this position may also include other elements, such as annual bonus and equity target award opportunities as well as medical, financial, and well-being benefits. Additional details of these benefits will be provided if a candidate receives an offer of employment.
