Vac-11360 Grandmother Group - Social Mobilizer

Grandmothersare one of the considerable resources that could be agents andcatalysts of change toward the promotion of positive behaviors and practices inAfghanistan. In a recent qualitative study on SBC and Nutrition, grandmotherswere identified as the most influential people when it comes to decisionsrelated to child feeding and child health-seeking behavior. Our objective is toempower and engage grandmothers in the promotion of optimal keypractices/behaviors of health, nutrition, and hygiene, related to childsurvival, development, and protection at the household level.

Since April 2023, 1,089 Grandmother Groups have been establishedall over the country. SBC section is seeking for highly dedicated, experiencedand passionate female Social Mobilizers to extend the Grandmother Groupsnetwork and strengthen their capacities, skills and community anchor to supportcommunity access to essentials services and promote positive behavior forchildren wellbeing.

Scopeof GMG Social Mobilizer Job:

2. Facilitate coordination and connection, community anchoring,linkages between the Grandmother Group network, service providers, and othercommunity platforms.

3. Build the capacity of Grandmother Group members in variousareas of community engagement, interpersonal communication for women and childhealth, Nutrition, and well being

4. Establish, expand, and maintain Grandmother Group networks atthe provincial level.

1. Supervise, supportand monitor the activities of the Grandmother Group network in the province.

Activitiesand Tasks to be performed by SM:

·In close coordination andsupport of CHWs preparation of a detailed monthly work plan for the grandmothergroup on the provincial level

·Leading, establishing andexpanding the GMGs at the provincial level under the direct supervision of SBCzonal officers.

·Close coordination withhealth Shura, CHSs, CHWs, Nutrition Counsellors, School management Shuras,community influencers, Madrasa teachers, and FHAG to support Grandmother Groupactivities

·Build community consensus forchange through grandmothers affirming and strengthening the role of GMs assupportive and advisory recourses at the community level

·Build the capacity ofGrandmother Groups in the project target area on issues affecting women andchildren to empower GMGs in promoting positive practices for child survival,development, and protection.

·Enhancing interpersonalcommunication between GMG networks, and supportive supervision of communityengagement sessions on a regular basis.    

·Support distribution andutilization of printed SBC assets on specific topics to support the CE dialogueand sessions and conduct end-user monitoring.

·Support the distribution ofsupplies such as hygiene kits, soap, and other commodities to the grandmothergroups in the target area

·Regularly attend monthlymeetings of local health shura and share the issues and progress updates of theGMGs.

·Conduct and attend regularmeetings to discuss GMGs related issues with SBC Technical Extenders and SBCIPs monthly and ad hoc basis

·Assist SBC team to monitorand visit female CE sessions, trainings where required

·Provide support to the TAAVON female members/wings trainings.

·Strengthen linkages betweenGMG and TAAVON female members at district and village level.

·Documentation and datacollection of the implemented activities by Grandmother Group members.

·On a monthly basis, sharingat least one success story of the GMG activities.

·Submission of monthlyprogress reports with proper documentation and data of the implementedactivities by Grandmother Groups.

·Update and record regularly theGMG online data base

·Any other business requestedby zonal SBC officers  

Reporting to SBC Extender and CTG Account Manager

N/A

1.University degree in publichealth, Social Science, education or any other related field

2.At least two years of workingexperience in the field of community mobilization, community development, andsocial work

3.Local resident, can travel toall districts of the province

4.Fluency in written and spokenlocal languages with an intermediate knowledge of English language

5.Being familiar with computerprograms (MS office)  

6.Knowledge about localenvironment and context.

7.Interpersonal skills: Strongcommunication, negotiation, and networking skills are necessary to engage withstakeholders.

8.Cultural sensitivity:Understanding and respect for local customs, traditions, and values are crucialto build trust and credibility.
