Mission and objectives
With its establishment on 7 April 1948, WHO works worldwide to promote health, keep the world safe, and serve the vulnerable. WHO’s goal is to ensure that a billion more people have universal health coverage, to protect a billion more people from health emergencies, and provide a further billion people with better health and well-being.
Context
(1) The incumbent will be based at the WHO European Center for Preparedness for Humanitarian and Emergencies in Istanbul (PHHE) and work under the supervision of the Head of Office, in close collaboration with the PHHE team, with the guidance of the Regional Communications Manager in WHO/EURO. (2) The role of the incumbent is that of a specialist and an expert in communication and advocacy. The incumbent will be part of the PHHE team as well as relates to relevant technical units in WHO. (3) Proactive role in seeking guidance from colleagues, searching and analyzing evidence, and usage of WHO guidelines are foreseen. (4) Contacts within the organization: Head of Office and other staff in PHHE: to share and receive knowledge/information, to harmonize the implementation of work; Regional Communications Manager in WHO/EURO: to receive strategic guidance and harmonize the implementation of work and to receive specific input in communication areas (media, web, social media, audiovisual content); Contacts outside the organization: Technical partners and stakeholders on the ground; Officials in the Ministry of Health of Member States, other relevant UN agencies and Non-governmental Organizations.
Task description
Within the delegated authority and under the direct supervision of the Head of Office at PHHE, and the guidance of the Communications, Identity and Publications (COM) unit in WHO EURO, the UNV Communication Specialist will: 1. Develop the WHO European Centre for Preparedness for Humanitarian and Health Emergencies (PHHE) Communication Strategy; 2. Analyze and support monitoring and evaluation of PHHE communication strategy; 3. Source, develop and maintain high-quality, relevant, time-sensitive content for the various communications channels and platforms of PHHE; 4. Support review of all communication and visibility materials to ensure they are in compliance with WHO rules; 5. Ensure that related elements of communication products are in place i.e., text, photos, links, videos, etc.; 6. Maintain an information database and multimedia (photo, video, etc.) library for PHHE to support communications documentation and help prepare content for the PHHE; 7. Lead the creation and publication of a PHHE newsletter; 8. Lead on regularly maintaining PHHE web pages and other online content; 9. Lead on the production of materials (print and online) for various purposes such as newsletters, reports, leaflets, and others including drafting and follow-up on the product design, production and liaising with partners 10. Develop in-house capacity in social media; 11. Develop and post new relevant content (graphics/visuals) for PHHE's social media platforms; 12. With guidance of his/her supervisor organize and run live social media events; 13. Coordinate all communication for events organized by PHHE (workshops, meetings, trainings and conferences); it will include advertisement of the event, identification of communication material needed, supervision of printing agencies, photographs, cameramen, and liaison with media. 14. Ensure the good development of event reports ; 15. Provide technical expertise and support for all communication activities of PHHE; 16. Perform any other communications-related duties as requested by the Head of Office.
