Position Summary

The School of Arts, Letters, & Sciences is seeking a Part-time Assistant Professor in the following areasof specialization(s): Digital Media Design.

In this role, the part-time faculty member will teach cohorts of students within aprogrammatic core discipline as assigned. Primary responsibilities include engaging students, offering excellent feedback, and inspiringstudents to achieve course and program outcomes relevant to the core discipline. This position works closely with other faculty teaching inthe discipline, Department Chair, and Dean.

Essential Functions

The role of Part-time Assistant Professorincludes teaching courses within a programmatic core discipline as assigned.  

Measuring Performance

Specificperformance standards for teaching include, but are not limited to:

  • Part-time Assistant Professor will email/record and post awelcome letter to their assigned students one week prior to the start of course, when feasible, but always within the first week of thecourse.
  • Part-time Assistant Professor will record and post a video introduction which will be placed in eachcourse.
  • Part-time Assistant Professor will answer all student emails within two calendar days which is likely to require respondingover weekends.  The exception to this requirement is if the Part-time Assistant Professor is on PTO or when there is a holiday observed bythe University.
  • Communication with students will take place within the University learning management system (LMS),University-designated systems and through University assigned email.
  • Part-time Assistant Professor will contact Student Services (byuse of designated means) in the LMS as soon as Part-time Assistant Professor determines a student is not actively participating in thecourse.
  • Part-time Assistant Professor will contact a student by email and a phone call to encourage re-engagement in the course assoon as Part-time Assistant Professor determines a student is not actively participating in the course.
  • As technologically supportedby the platform, Part-time Assistant Professor will host no less than two one-hour synchronous office hour sessions per week.  Office hourswill be posted in each course.
  • Part-time Assistant Professor will provide quality feedback to students.  Quality feedback includesbut is not limited to:
    • substantive and reflect a content focus
    • impart knowledge, share resources and dialogue withstudents
    • include track changes of edits to proper use of mechanics
    • include a summative statement at the beginning or end ofdocument with key observations
    • communicate in a manner and with language reflecting support of the student

Scholarship

Part-time Assistant Professor is expected to meet the University's requirements for scholarship asarticulated in the Faculty Handbook. Part-time Assistant Professor is encouraged to apply for the various initiatives the University fundsto promote research and scholarship. Part-time Assistant will:

  • Maintain a record of scholarly activities befitting a doctoralgranting institution
  • Contribute to the body of knowledge of their discipline

Compliance with UniversityPolicies 

Part-time Assistant Professors are expected to know, acknowledge, and comply with University policies as stated inthe Team Member Handbook and Faculty Handbook.

Requirements:

Education & Experience:

Required Qualifications:

  • Master'sdegree in a related field
  • A minimum of three years of experience working with software in at least one of the following fields:graphic design, video/audio production and post-production, web, UX/UI, and video gaming. Additional consideration for experience in videogame design.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • At least one year of professional experience and/or teachingexperience
  • Experience teaching online
  • Experience teaching adult learners
  • Professional certifications, e.g.,Adobe
  • A portfolio of work that can be reviewed
  • A breadth of experience in Digital Media
  • Experience withstoryboarding, storytelling

Software Experience:

  • At least 3 years experience with software in one ormore of the following areas:
  • Video Game Design: Maya, 3ds Max, Unity, Unreal Engine
  • Graphic Design: Photoshop, Illustrator,InDesign
  • Video/audio production and post-production: Premiere Pro, After Effects, Audition
  • UX/UI, web and 2-D: Adobe XD,Dreamweaver, Animate

  • Work independently and foster a cooperative spirit within a large and/or small team of diverse cultures, while workingin a fast-paced environment with multiple deadlines and frequently changing priorities.
  • Intermediate use of computers and MicrosoftOffice Suite Applications such as Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook.  Experience using Student Information System (SIS) such asSOAR/Peoplesoft systems.
  • Skill in operating equipment, such as personal computer, fax, copier, phone systems.
  • Ability tohandle a diversity of details in order to make informed and responsive decisions on matters that impact the Part-time Professors, andstudents.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and governing bodyregulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to define problems, collectdata, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions inmathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinkingskills.
  • Experience with the online delivery of education and the systems that support it
  • Willingness to participate in trialuse of new technologies and integrate new technologies into teaching.
  • Excellent communication skills: verbal andwritten.
  • Skill in using or eagerness to learn to use multiple technologies to teach and communicate with students (learningmanagement systems, Skype, etc.).
  • Demonstrated mastery of APA style.

Compensation Range:

Hourly: $26.63 - $28.89

Candidate receiving offers will be offered asalary/pay rate commensurate with experience that vary based on a candidate's qualifications, skills, and competencies.  Absent exceptionalcircumstances, candidates will be offered a salary within this range for this position.
