Role objectives

Under the supervision of the WASH Specialist, Community Engagement Associate will performthe following tasks:

● Implement community sensitization activities as per assigned area;

● Support and monitor the implementing local partner NGOs and/CBOs

● Conduct/facilitate need assessments of community behavior change, capacity building andliaison building between communities and service providers

● Implement the community feedback mechanism at field level and provide the projectmanagement with necessary community feedback and information for designing projectinterventions

● Support in implementing the gender action plan in field activities

● Coordinate with community, government departments and other stake holders to supporttwo way communication between project and communities/stakeholders.The Community Engagement Associate is moreover expected to actively promote genderequality across all her/his tasks.

Following are key results areas for the position of Community Engagement Associate;

▪ Sensitize the local community on the sustainability aspects and factors of project activities(Regular tariff and O&M of schemes)

▪ Provide data/information required for the preparation of community action plans in order todesign a sustainable WASH programme in the targeted project areas

▪ Undertake duties as directed/ requested by the Project Management to support the deliveryand Implementation of distinct projects for Community Engagement and capacity building.

▪ Apply UNOPS minimum requirements on accountability to beneficiaries in the implementationof community Mobilization activities

▪ Encourage women, persons with disabilities (PWDs) and minority groups’ opinion to be takenin consideration in the community decisions.

▪Ensure that wherever possible an empowering approach to working with communities isemployed, ensuring that all work is carried out in a way that is sensitive to community needs,local cultures, community protection and gender aspects.

▪ Act as a link between the organization and the beneficiaries.

▪ Support and supervise implementation of community sensitization, awareness raising andcommunity behavior change and public health promotion activities at field

▪ Mobilize, organize and encourage the Communities to take ownership of maintaining bestpractices in public health promotion activities.

▪ Conduct basic participatory hygiene promotion sessions within communities, schools, groupsof persons with specific needs, according to age, gender and diversity, community-basedcommittees and other groups, such as duty bearers and stakeholders.

▪ Collect regular feedback and understanding of context – especially related to WASH practices/community belief and perceptions.

▪ Promote basic hygiene education through a variety of means, such as information sharing,dissemination, and communication materials.

▪ Support the project management to produce the audio-visual tools, for training and sensitizingthe community with the participation of the engineers and the beneficiaries.

▪ Support in designing and undertaking field research/surveys to propose communityengagement and capacity building project interventions.

▪ Participate in need assessments of community behavior change, capacity building, as well asdetail need assessments with Consultant/partners/third party in field area

▪ Monitor the work of enumerators/promoters/NGOs and volunteers and report on activities tothe supervisor.

▪ Participate in monitoring the effectiveness of the community Engagement activities andcontribute to the adjustments of methodology and material based on the lessons learned fromthe field experience and community feedback.

▪ Participate in pre- and post-programme assessments and collect quality data.

▪ Report community feedback to support in designing and managing Grievance redressalmechanism allowing all stakeholders of the project (starting with the members of thebeneficiary communities) to voice concerns, complaints and/or recommendations about anyaspect of the project.Recruitment Qualifications
